Free-standing chimneys

The category of 'free-standing chimneys' also includes chimneys that are restrained or supported laterally or mounted on top of another structure.

Regulatory framework

The Technical Building Rules (see in particular MVV TB Chapter A 1) apply to free-standing chimneys.

For free-standing chimney applications that deviate significantly from the Technical Building Rules, DIBt grants general construction technique permits (aBG), where required in combination with a national technical approval (abZ) for non-regulated components (individual construction products) forming part of the chimney.

European Technical Assessments (ETAs) can also be issued for products/kits for free-standing chimneys. In this case, the Technical Building Rules of the relevant federal state following MVV TB Chapter A1 apply to design and execution. In the event of deviations, a construction technique permit can be granted.
