Insulating render systems

Insulating render systems contain, apart from the usual render components, aggregates such as polystyrene, perlite or an aerogel. The insulation performance achieved in this way is comparable to that of commonly used insulation products.

Regulatory framework

In this work area, DIBt grants national technical approvals (abZ) and/or general construction technique permits (aBG) and issues European Technical Assessments (ETAs).

Regarding design and execution, the Administrative Provisions – Technical Building Rules of the relevant federal state must be observed. Cf. the common model MVV TB, in particular Section A 6 (Heat retention).

For insulating rendering or plastering mortar in accordance with European standard DIN EN 998-1, the design values for thermal conductivity set out in DIN 4108-10 apply. More favourable design values can be verified in accordance with MVV TB, A 6, Annex 6.2/3 based on a European Technical Assessment.

As a result of the implementation of the judgement of the European Court of Justice of 16 October 2014 in case C-100/13, national technical approvals are no longer granted for products if they bear the CE marking on the basis of the Construction Products Regulation (Regulation (EU) No 305/2011). The products may not be marked with the national conformity mark. Approvals for which the period of validity has not yet expired are listed below. They can be used on a voluntary basis to prove fulfilment of the regulatory requirements.

National procedure

A national technical approval (abZ) and/or oder general construction technique permit (aBG) is granted upon application (see Model Building Code (MBO), Sections 16a(2) and18(2) and (4)). This also applies to amendments and supplements to, or renewals of existing approvals and/or construction technique permits.

No formal requirements apply. The following information is needed: name and address of the applicant, description of the product and/or construction technique and its field of use or application, type of decision required (new decision, amendment or supplement to, or renewal of, an existing decision).

European Technical Assessment (ETA)

To start the ETA procedure, please submit the form below. We will then check if the prerequisites for issuing an ETA are met, i.e., in particular, if the product is not fully covered by an existing harmonised standard. If the prerequisites are met, we will check whether a European Assessment Document (EAD) covering the requested assessment scope already exists or still needs to be developed. If an EAD needs to be developed or amended, a complete technical file needs to be established before the procedure can begin.
