Smoke detection and triggering devices for fire dampers or smoke dampers
Smoke detection and triggering devices are used for controlling and triggering fire and smoke dampers in air ducts of HVAC systems. Following smoke detection and the corresponding signalling, the fire or smoke dampers are triggered to shut through the interruption of the supply voltage. The spread of smoke in buildings via the air ducts is contained or prevented.
Regulatory framework
In this work area, DIBt grants national technical approvals (abZ)/general construction technique permits (aBG). The smoke detection and triggering devices are verified for use in ducts with air velocities of between 1 m/s and 20 m/s.
Please also refer to the relevant provisions of the federal states following MVV TB 2020/1, Sections B 3.2.1.8 and 3.2.1.9 and the Model Guideline on fire protection requirements for ventilation systems (M-LüAR).
National procedure
A national technical approval (abZ) and/or oder general construction technique permit (aBG) is granted upon application (see Model Building Code (MBO), Sections 16a(2) and18(2) and (4)). This also applies to amendments and supplements to, or renewals of existing approvals and/or construction technique permits.
No formal requirements apply. The following information is needed: name and address of the applicant, description of the product and/or construction technique and its field of use or application, type of decision required (new decision, amendment or supplement to, or renewal of, an existing decision).
